Guildhall Gold Medal

The Guildhall School is pleased to announce the finalists for its most prestigious prize for musicians: the Gold Medal. The finalists are: Bianca Andrew (mezzo-soprano); Samuel Carl (bass-baritone); Josep-Ramon Olivé (baritone); Daniel Shelvey (baritone).

Each finalist will perform a short programme with piano accompaniment followed by a second half of arias with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dominic Wheeler before a Barbican Hall audience.

Singing for Stefano

This star studded gala concert is being organised by the musical friends of New Zealand opera star Anna Leese to support husband Stefano Guidi, Anna and their baby Matteo in a time of great need.  

The evening will be hosted by renowned baritone Sir Thomas Allen with many other star singers including Sophie Bevan, Sarah Castle, Alisdair Hogarth, Jacques Imbrailo, Madeleine Pierard, David Butt Philip and Wendy Dawn Thompson, accompanied by Bryan Evans, Alisdair Hogarth, Gary Matthewman and Lada Valesova.

The Tale of Januarie is a new opera by an all-Guildhall School team based on Chaucer's The Merchants Tale. A comedy of love and age, the opera is sung in Middle English in order to enhance its authenticity, but also to heighten the comedy. Singers, drawn from the School's Opera Course, will sing the première of this exciting and hilarious new work, having followed its development from page to stage.
